Programs For Your Teens? YMCA Camp Hanes Has Those Too!
By Jen de Ridder, senior program director at Camp Hanes
At YMCA Camp Hanes we want to help all campers to be their best selves. We do this in an environment where fun comes naturally. Whether you are looking for an exciting Day Camp, first step overnight programs like our Mini Camp or Traditional Camps we have it all. We also have some new opportunities for your teens this summer.
Excitement awaits those who enjoy the outdoors and a challenging experience. Adventure Camp combines the best of on-site traditional camp activities and off-site adventures. Campers will live in tents both while at Camp Hanes and while experiencing off site activities for part of the week. Each session will be under the supervision of our trained and certified staff. No prior experience or equipment is necessary, but an adventurous spirit is a must!
This summer we are adding two new trips! Â So there will be three options for the program. Â We will continue our Adventure Camp we have done in the past. Â We will head out on Monday to go whitewater rafting, caving and camping in Tennessee/southern Virginia. Â Camper will return to camp on Wednesday evening to do a variety of fun and challenging camp activities such as our Budd Family Treetop Village, blobbing, Budd Family Shotgun Range and paintball.
We will also host a Rock Climbing Adventure camp.  This program will teach climbing skills on naturally existing rock surfaces.  Climbing is done in day trips locally at Hanging Rock State Park and Pilot Mountain State Park.  Campers will also experience climbing on Sauratown Mountain here at YMCA Camp Hanes.  Campers will sleep and camp onsite during the week.
Finally we will offer our Coastal Adventure camp. Â The group will head out on Monday to River Road Park near Wilimington, NC. Â They will participate in a kayak-paddling expedition exploring Cape Fear River, Shark’s Tooth Island and Carolina Beach State Park.
Think about your choice, get ready for an adventure and we look forward to your campers stories.  Questions? Contact us at 336-983-3131 or Jake Stephens our Associate Adventure Director at j.stephens@ymcanwnc.org.
