Looking for healthy summer sweet treats that kids and adults will both love? With the heat rising and sugar-filled snacks lining store shelves, many families are searching for healthier, refreshing options that won’t lead to sugar crashes or long-term health concerns. One of the easiest and most delicious ways to enjoy a cool dessert is by making your own Italian ice, sorbet, or fruit-based frozen dessert right at home—without added sugar. For families focused on nutrition and balance, it’s a great way to introduce kids to the natural sweetness of fruit while creating memories in the kitchen.

Many moms worry about their children becoming too accustomed to sugary desserts. Teaching them early to appreciate the natural flavors of fruit sets them up for better eating habits later. And with the right tools, creating these sweet treats becomes easy, affordable, and fun.

Why the Ninja Creami is a Game-Changer

After trying out a few machines and recipes, one tool that truly stood out is the Ninja Creami. At first, it seemed like it might become one of those gadgets that collects dust, but it quickly earned its place on the counter. This machine is a multi-tasking wonder—it makes Italian ice, ice cream, sorbet, and other frozen desserts with ease.

The Ninja Creami gives you total control over the ingredients. Skip the processed sugars and use fruit, almond milk, or a dollop of TruWhip for creaminess. It’s also great for dietary preferences, with vegan and keto options available when you use the right toppings and mix-ins. Plus, the machine is easy to use. Just freeze your mixture in the included container, pop it into the machine, press a button, and in minutes you have a refreshing summer dessert.

Budget-Friendly and Full of Benefits

Another bonus? It doesn’t break the bank. Homemade frozen desserts often seem cost-effective until you tally up specialty ingredients and time. But with the Ninja Creami, you can use fruit you already have or canned items that are affordable and shelf-stable. There’s satisfaction in making your own healthy summer sweet treats, especially when it means saving money and offering a better choice to your family.

Sweet Summer Treats without Sugar

Orange Cream Frozen Dessert Recipe

I like a cold sweet treat in the summer, and children definitely love a cold sweet treat all year long. As a mom and preschool teacher, it is important to me to teach the children how to enjoy the sweetness of natural fruit while they are young. This way they do not develop an addiction to sugar. Which in turn could affect them negatively in their youth, and later in their adulthood. One of my favorite treats is Italian ice. I love how it tastes creamy and fruity and becomes an even better sweet as it melts.

Ingredients

  • 2 – 8 oz. each cans peeled mandarins if you use fresh oranges you have to spend the time to peel them and I don’t want to spend my time this way
  • 2 tablespoons of Tru whip nondairy creamer
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey optional or to taste
  • Juice from the 2 cans of mandarins (after you fill your fruit in the container fill the container to the line with the juice.

Instructions

  • The machine is very easy to use. First, you simply freeze your ingredients in the supplied container. Then, put the container in the machine, press a button, and voila your sweet treat – with no sugar – is ready.
