Dance Project: Building a Stronger Community Through Dance

By Guest bloggers Anne Morris and Angelina DiFranco with Dance Project

Dance Project has spent the past 30 years nurturing a vibrant and inclusive community of artists, audiences, and students. We do so by providing opportunities for training, performance, collaboration, and employment. Dance Project is proud to encompass the NC Dance Festival, our school’s community dance studio in the Cultural Center, outreach programming that provides free and low-cost classes, and The Van Dyke Dance Group. Our vision is to build a stronger community through dance and provide people of all different ages, backgrounds, and abilities with affordable access to high-quality dance classes and experiences.

Meeting Individuals Where They Are

We believe there’s a pathway for everyone to succeed in their unique dance journey. Therefore, is our joy and responsibility to meet every individual where they are. Our dedicated school team and experienced teachers are available to discuss your goals. Our team will guide each dancer towards their path to success. With our robust scholarship program, we ensure that every child has access to our programs to enjoy the benefits of dance. Whether you dream of becoming the next big star on the stage, are an avid hobbyist, or want to try a dance class for the very first time, we can support you every step of the way! As one of our Dance Project families put it:

“From the first day my granddaughter arrived for her class, Dance Project has been the best program I have ever experienced. It is a relaxed atmosphere where my granddaughter is welcomed and encouraged. There is a smile on her face after every class. We love the professionalism of the instructors. We also appreciate the ease of the dance recital which is top notch, and the quality of the dances during the recital. These are some of the many are reasons I can strongly recommend Dance Project. If you are looking for a dance studio for your child or for yourself, this is the one.” – Sheryl A.

Variety of Genres and Levels

Dance Project facilitates the growth of all students by offering a wide variety of dance genres. In addition, our class offerings include beginner to advanced levels for toddlers to adults. Our Dancing with Tots class (18mo-3yrs) gives parents the opportunity to take part in their child’s first experience with dance, an unforgettable activity! Kiddos ages 3-5 can enjoy Creative Movement, offering a fun introduction to dance with daytime, afternoon, and weekend classes available. Students focus on learning how to use the body as a means of expression.

Additionally, we offer combined classes, such as Ballet/Modern or Jazz/Tap. These are available for dancers ages 5-7. They not only offer great value, but also introduce young dancers to the benefits of developing foundational skills across different styles. This allows our younger students to realize the types of genres they enjoy and their goals. Our array of classes for ages 8 and up, from ballet to breaking, cater to complete beginners and students building on existing training.

Dance Project Additional Offerings

Adults can drop in to our adult classes commitment-free any time throughout each semester. This gives parents with a busy schedule the opportunity to pick and choose when to attend their next dance class. In addition, they can save some money with our multi-class passes. Bring your friends for a fun evening of moving and grooving!

Dance Project also offers non-competitive Performance Companies that are open to all and require no audition to participate. Our companies are split into four age groups: Mini, Junior, Teen, and Adult. This provides an opportunity to gain performance experience regardless of when you or your child start your dance journey. Performance Company students get to play a big role in our wider community. They are able to do this through performing at local events such as the Holiday Parade and the Festival of Lights. We strive to support students that desire high-quality training, love to learn and perform choreography, and thrive in a supportive atmosphere.

Dance Project

Our organization is passionate about being present in the community through dance, and we are honored to be involved in so many events throughout the year. Dance project is fortunate to host dance-filled marathons and other fundraisers, offer residencies in local schools, and teach special pop-up classes at no or low cost. We do this so that everyone in the community can share in the fun while supporting the aspiring dancers and students of Greensboro.

We are excited to help you fulfill your goals and aspirations. Dance Project welcomes you to join us in building a stronger community through dance! Learn more at danceproject.org.
