Holiday Activity Bucket List
By TMoM Team Member Dennette Bailey
The holidays offer many of us what is hard to come by any other time of the year – extra time. As a result, this time of the year is when we most likely get the time to do something or go somewhere new. However, trying to think of something to do or somewhere to go can sometimes be just as time-consuming. No worries, TMoM to the rescue. The following is a bucket list of places to visit and things to do to make your “extra time” during the holidays a bucket load of fun.
Holiday Traveling
Depending on whether you are looking to travel near or far consider these destinations:
- The beautiful Telluride Colorado has a picturesque setting and a variety of holiday events that offer family and picture-perfect events. One look at this town on YouTube and you will be sold. Check out their website at www.telluride.net/Telluride-Holiday-Events/.
- If you are looking for a place to spark your child’s imagination, you must check out Santa Claus Indiana. This town features Rudolph Lake, Santas Castle, a Christmas store and an all-around Christmas town experience perfect for creating family traditions and photo ops. santaclausind.org
- If you would like to stay local, you must check out Korner’s Folly in Kernersville NC. It features a historic home which boasts Christmas decorations and Christmas events perfect for celebrating the holiday spirit. Visit kornersfolly.org for more information.
Watch a Holiday Movie
If you are looking for a great holiday movie, consider these:
- Home Alone (1990) PG
- Home Sweet Home Alone (2021) PG
- Elf (2003) PG
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989) PG-13
- Holiday Rush (2019) PG
- This Christmas (2007) PG-13
Small Town Activities
These are often very reasonably priced and sometimes even free. Depending on your city these activities will differ so the best way to find these events in your town is to visit the TMoM Event Calendar. Then, search for the event in your city.
Thoughtful Holiday Activities
It is important to remain thankful and charitable during this time of the year. Plus, making it a family or friend affair is a great way to maintain this sentiment. Below are some thoughtful bucket ideas to add to your holiday spirit.
- Make cards for seniors, the sick, or widows. Receiving a card in the mail, especially when the whole family or friend group is involved is a great way to let others know they are cared for. Whether you make the cards or buy them, consider sending cards to people to show them your care.
- Gift Boxes for military members. There are a couple of organizations that offer methods to do this. For example, you can find one organization here www.legion.org/troops/3559/sending-holiday-gifts-troops to assist with this.
- Invite a friend who is new to town or doesn’t have family to spend the holiday with your family.
- Holiday Game Day – Host a holiday game day. It is a great way to strengthen relationships or spend time with someone you know doesn’t normally have people to spend time with. The neighbor who complains could become a friend with a simple invite to a game night. This can be as creative as you like by adding a theme or creating teams.
This Holiday bucket list is sure to keep you busy but don’t forget to check out TMoM’s Facebook and Instagram pages for more great ideas to have a wonderful time during the holidays!
