Holiday Fun for the Whole Family at Pirates Voyage
By Rachel Hoeing
If you have ever visited Myrtle Beach, chances are that you have passed the huge building that houses the Pirates Voyage show, or you have seen a billboard for the show. I have always been intrigued by what the show was all about, and two summers ago, we took a group of about 15 moms and kids to check it out. The children ranged from age 5 – 14, and to our delight, every single kid had a blast! Even the moms were smiling and cheering! I was personally in awe at the quality of the performance, and the value of the tickets. Tickets range from $24.99 – $49.99 depending upon age and seating location. Considering that I took my two children to be entertained for over two hours, and we were fed a full dinner and dessert, this was an amazing deal.

Fast forward to this season, when I saw that Pirates Voyage was hosting a Christmas show. I knew I wanted to attend and see how it might differ from the other performance. I’ll get to the show excitement in a moment, but I’ll first give you some tips on planning your getaway should you choose to do the same.
My daughter and I booked a trip to North Myrtle Beach for two nights and three days. We booked through Condo World, and stayed at North Beach Plantation. This is the only 5-Star AAA 4 Diamond Resort in Myrtle Beach, and it was absolutely beautiful. The building itself as we pulled onto the main driveway was just breathtaking. Then to top it off, the condo was extremely spacious and very clean! It had all the amenities we needed, and a very large oceanfront balcony. All units in this resort are actually oceanfront, and you can choose from 1 – 5 bedroom condos. Once we unpacked, we took advantage of the heated pool and lazy river right away! There were also numerous outdoor pools, kiddie pools, a swim-up bar, and a hot tub. The fitness center and spa were also top-notch, and there were also options for on-site dining.

The location of North Beach Plantation could not have been more convenient, as it is directly across from Barefoot Landing, which includes a plethora of food, entertainment, and shopping. It is also just a few miles away from the Tanger Outlets, where we did plenty of holiday shopping. And of course it was just a short drive to the Pirates Voyage show as well. Condo World has a best rate guarantee on all of their Myrtle Beach resorts, which you can check out here. In addition, they have vacation rentals in other family friendly cities such as Pigeon Forge, Orlando, Hilton Head, Destin, and Gatlinburg, just to name a few.
As I mentioned, we spent plenty of time enjoying our accommodations, sitting on the beach, and relaxing. On Friday afternoon, we headed to our Pirates Voyage show around 4:45pm in order to catch the pre-show before our 6pm showtime. Luckily, since we had attended in the past, we knew that the pre-show would not be something to miss. Get there early and get a seat by the stage so you can be close to the action! (The main show is about 90 minutes and the pre-show is 50 minutes.) During the pre-show time, there are sing-alongs, trivia, and pirate entertainment! Children can also have their faces painted as they are transformed into a pirate or mermaid complete with costume accessories and flags. (These are $19.99 plus tax and it is suggested to purchase your make-up session in advance.)
 Â
Once the doors open for you to enter into the main arena, you will not believe your eyes! The area is huge! Guests are seated in this amphitheater style setting with the main stage and large pool of water in the center. No matter where you are seated, you will end up just footsteps away from the action.
I can say with certainty that this Christmas show did not disappoint. It was just as exciting as the original Pirates Voyage show, but added in plenty of holiday decor, Christmas music, “Captain Scrooge,” and a live nativity. When I say the show has a little something for everyone, I am not exaggerating. Think flying acrobats, singing, live animals, interactive games, sword fighting, black-lights, fire dancing, theater, and an amazing cast and crew. I honestly don’t think I have seen men and women that in shape since I watched American Ninja Warrior! These people were incredible in their athletic abilities.

I also wanted to mention that you definitely need to arrive HUNGRY! You will be served a four course holiday feast, and can even specify gluten free or vegetarian. Even my very picky eater enjoyed her meal.
One of the best parts of the entire experience was the diversity of the crowd. No matter someone’s age or background, they were smiling and laughing throughout! From the wee ones to the elderly, everyone was happy! There were many times when I honestly did not know where to look because I was afraid I would miss something. Sadly, my photos don’t do justice to the performance, but I hope they have given you a glimpse of what to expect.
