How GUSA Helps Level the Playing Field

You wouldn’t normally think of a sport as a gift, but when you register your child for an activity such as soccer, you are giving them so much more than just an activity to fill their day. And thanks to Greensboro United Soccer Association (GUSA), parents have three options to help get their child on the field, no matter his age or ability.

Option #1: Recreation
Now through August 12, registration for the Fall Recreation program is in full swing for children ages 3 ½ to 16. The teams practice on some of the best facilities in North Carolina. Bryan Park (pictured below) is among the best fields in the southeastern United States.

Other facilities include Proehlific Park, Summerfield Athletic Park, Smith Complex, Jaycee Park, Adams Farm, plus more around Greensboro.

GUSA also offers age and gender specific age groups. Its younger age groups U4-U7 play small sided games, 3v3 or 4v4, which allows the kids to get more touches on the ball during a game- meaning the players don’t have the share the toy (ball) as much! Could you image if they played with a full team? It would be like putting twenty 6 year olds in a room with only one toy to play with. That would be absurd!

Players who register for the Fall and Spring seasons with GUSA, will automatically return to their Fall teams in the Spring. Players who register for the Fall only, can register again and return to their same team. Players who register for the first time in the Spring, can request a team to be placed on and GUSA will try to accommodate that request.

Option #2: Soccer Tots
If you have a first-time soccer player (ages 2-6) who is timid about trying the sport, consider signing them up with Soccer Tots. One of the gifts of Soccer Tots is that it stresses a non-competitive environment. When your child is going through so many developmental changes, this program is one that focuses on fun and secretly teaches your child athletic skills without them even realizing they are learning! Soccer Tots realizes that kids are motivated through play at these early ages.

Greensboro United Soccer Association has partnered with Soccer Tots to give younger children the opportunity to experience the same benefits that older children gain through GUSA.

Soccer Tots is offered in numerous locations such as the Sportsplex, Proehlific Park, and Winston-Salem Soccerplex. Check out the website for more information: http://www.soccertots.net/greensboro

Option #3: Winter Indoor Soccer League
GUSA’s winter league players have indoor turf fields! Not many winter programs in the area can offer that! Plus, unlike other indoor leagues, GUSA has professional coaches and referees! Leagues begin in November and run through February, and is open to ages 5 through adult. All the information you need about this league can be found in these following links:

Try one option, two options, or all of them and you’re certain to score a goal in the eyes of your child! Need more convincing? Click here and here to see our past posts about GUSA, written by parents who either grew up with the love of soccer or who know first-hand the benefits GUSA provides.

Has your child played with GUSA? Share with us what you like best. And don’t forget to register by August 12 for the Fall season while space is still available!
