Today, we introduce you to Kara and Charina …
Kara Cox
Kara grew up in the Triad but began her career in New York City in the fashion industry. After returning to Greensboro to marry her husband of 10 years, Kara transitioned from fashion to the furniture industry traveling internationally and around the country as an editor for a home furnishings magazine. After the birth of her first child, Kara decided to pursue a more flexible career in Interior Design and returned to school for a second degree. After training under another interior designer for several years, Kara opened her own business a little over four years ago. Kara now balances running her own business with being a mom of two children, Avery, 8, and Davis, 4.
Kara’s full-service design services bring a fresh approach to classic interiors. She marries her fashion-forward look with traditional Southern style. Kara loves to meet families’ design needs creating beautiful homes for them to grow in. As a mom of two, she knows organization, stain resistant fabrics and quality furnishings that stand up to kids’ daily use are a must when designing spaces for families. Her work has been featured in Traditional Home magazine, HGTV magazine, TradHome online magazine and locally in O’Henry magazine. Kara works with clients throughout North Carolina as well as other areas of the country. Kara loves to draw inspiration for her work through traveling with her family, discovering new emerging artists and exploring vintage furniture and antique stores. Kara is also an active volunteer in the Greensboro community as the co-chair of the March of Dimes Chef’s Auction, serves on the steering committee for Center City Park and volunteers at her church, Grace United Methodist, and with her children’s schools.
Charina Brooks
When we think of health and fitness, we often think of professional trainers and gym membership, but for Charina Brooks, health and fitness starts at home. As Charina says, “I am a busy mom and a full-time employee. Going to the gym just doesn’t work for me. For years, I struggled with my weight. I was sad, irritable, depressed and always lacked energy. One day, I told myself that I had to do something. If I didn’t help myself, nobody would.”
As of this date, Charina has lost 25 lbs and is just 7 lbs. away from reaching her goal. She is now an advocate of healthy eating and physical activity. She is not a professional trainer but is proud of being a health and fitness coach at Beachbody. “Being an Emerald Coach has allowed me to inspire and help others that are in the same journey as me. It is different when you have someone who understands what you are going through and is willing to walk alongside you.”
Her husband Daniel and their 12 year daughter, Nikki, are behind her 100% and are very proud of her accomplishments. In addition to this new healthy lifestyle that she has embraced, she continues to work as a web designer and also keeps her own blog, Pondered Thoughts, which you can read here. She enjoys blogging and being able to share inspiration and encouragement with others. Charina believes that all you need to achieve health and fitness is the determination and the desire for change. “If you need an accountability partner who will be behind you 100%, I am here to help! The challenge is yours.” You can email Charina or visit her website.
