New Children’s Art Studio in the Heart of the Triad
By Flavia Nazareth, founder and owner of Little Blank Canvas
Little Blank Canvas is about art, fun, messy projects, meeting friends. It’s about discovering new solutions, ideas and different ways to express our imagination and creativity in a safe and engaging place.
We are a new Children’s Art Studio in the heart of the Triad offering unique art enrichment program for children 18 months to 14 years old. Our mission is to expose children to different medium and techniques while having fun and exploring new possibilities. We believe that there are no mistakes in art and we value creativity and self-expression.
Little Blank Canvas offers mixed media art classes for children, workshops, birthday parties, summer camps and open studio hours. The Studio also offers special classes for adults, and hosts your special events too. Little Blank Canvas only uses high quality, non- toxic materials. Art lessons are designed to be messy and fun, allowing children to explore and expand their creativity in a safe, welcoming environment, while learning concepts about art, art history, different mediums, shapes and textures.
“Exposing your child to art helps with their creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills for life, and an early appreciation of art and a sense of accomplishment. These creative children grow into creative adults who invent, imagine, problem solve, create and communicate in fresh new ways.” (The Arts Go to School, David Booth and Masayuki Hachiya, eds. Markham, Ontario: Pembroke Publishers, 2004), p.15)
When children explore art, they are often testing possibilities and working through challenges. Art allows children to assess situations and teaches them that a problem can have more than one answer. Instead of following specific rules or directions, as they are often encouraged to do in school and in their homes, art engages kids’ brains and makes them ask how and why? Participating in art activities has been proven time and time again to help children develop cognitive, social and emotional skills they will need throughout their lifetime (article published on examiner.com: The Importance of Art in Children’s Cognitive, Social and Emotional Development, By Lauren Zaniboni, Boston Children’s Mental Health Examiner.)
The curriculum objective is to meet every child at his or her unique ability level. Each session is designed to help encourage your child’s creativity and sense of accomplishment. Children will explore and play with a variety of media and showcase their art work at the end of the program. Displaying your child’s project and praising them for their accomplishments are keys to creating self-confidence and a sense of pride.
Mixed Media Art Classes start September 3rd and run until October 11. This first session’s theme is based on Modern Artists with different medium and techniques every class.
A new session starts every 6 weeks and each session has a core theme to help engage students in the activity. No random craft class but high quality art instruction fostering self-expression and creativity. Our instructors are prepared to give one-on-one attention to students while helping them to work in group as well.
Each session runs for 6 weeks, meeting once a week. All materials included!
