Southern Roots – An Unforgettable Meal
It’s official, y’all. I’ve lived in the south for just about 20 years and in the Triad for about half that time, but it’s only recently that I’ve had (what I call) my first, true unforgettable southern meal. I would have guessed such a claim would be true for a restaurant in Charleston, Savannah or even New Orleans where exquisite southern dishes are a given, and some are even notorious. But nope. In my humble opinion and experiences, my recent outing to Southern Roots is at the very top.
A few of us on the TMoM team met there for dinner before we started our busy summer schedules. Southern Roots is located in Jamestown, a convenient location no matter where you live in the Triad – and it was the perfect meeting spot for our team which is spread out among Winston-Salem, High Point and Greensboro. We all knew either from personal experience or from recommendations that Southern Roots is a fabulous restaurant, and once again, we were reminded of this very fact!
Our team started out with two appetizers: the soft shell crab (pictured right) and the Thai spicy shrimp. If I can ever order soft shell crab, I usually do, and the one I had at Southern Roots was incomparable. But the Thai spicy shrimp – now that was just downright divine! Freshly breaded and fried prawns in sweet and spicy sauce, sesame seeds, green onion, and citrus aioli. I had to hold myself back from picking up the plate and licking it clean.
Here’s what others on our team had to say:
Southern Roots is a diamond in the rough. The menu has a great variety of entrée options and it was difficult to narrow it down to one! Everything I took a bite of was incredible – from the appetizers to the salad to the meal itself. I am definitely planning to go back – it gets an A+ in my book! ~ Kristie
I love Southern Roots for so many reasons! It’s a great place to enjoy a relaxing evening on the patio, a perfect place to grab a drink with friends or your husband and enjoy the live music on certain nights each week, and last but not least, it offers a delicious meal from start to finish! You can’t go wrong with any of the choices, every plate is cooked to perfection. I also love that the prices are so reasonable! Southern Roots is one of my all time favorite local restaurants! ~ Ash
Southern Roots is a unique and classy restaurant that serves local, fresh, and delicious food. The ambiance is comfortable and variety on the menu makes me want to go back and again and again. Everyone is friendly and it is a place that I look forward to returning on a date night and with friends. When can we go back!?!?!?! ~ Dani
Some favorites from our team include:

Yet those are just a few…there are so many other mouthwatering dishes from which to choose!
