Classic & Timeless: Portraits by Deborah

By Kelly Hines

The light is perfect; warm and soft, turning everything golden. Your children are laughing, throwing their arms around each other, eyes bright and cheeks red. Everything is in sharp focus, from the blades of grass to the strand of hair that falls across your daughter’s face and catches in the corner of her mouth. It is a moment you want to remember forever.

It’s a treasured memory that can be captured in classic style by Deborah Hendrix, and Portraits by Deborah. With nearly thirty years of professional experience, Deborah’s photography is instinctual. She looks past the equipment and into the moment.

deb_1It was one such instance that changed the course of her personal life as well. In 1998, Deborah was already an established pet photographer, and spent much of her time behind the lens photographing for non-profits all over the east coast. It was during one such photo shoot of a sweet dog named Maggie that she peered through her lens and saw something more than a pet – she saw Maggie’s owner, Boyd. A year later, Deborah and Boyd were married, and today they have three grown children and five grandchildren.

As her family grew, so did her credentials. She is a member of Professional Photographers of North Carolina, and Professional Photographers of America. Deborah holds an Associate and a Fellowship Degree in Photography, as well as a Photographic Craftsman Degree. She has studied under internationally acclaimed photographers and each year attends conferences, seminars, and schools to master her craft and produce the highest quality, most innovative images for her clients.

Deb_11One of these innovative creations is artisan canvas portraiture, a specialty of Portraits by Deborah. It’s a unique process that starts with a photographic portrait, adds advanced technology and attention to detail, and results in the rich color, tonal ranges, and deep saturation of an oil painting. The finished product is an heirloom quality portrait that will be treasured for generations.

“We want to create portraits that are true to the personality of the people we photograph,” says Deborah. She uses metered light, indoors and out, to capture those personalities in the perfect moment. It’s a skill that goes beyond the camera equipment and editing software.

Her innate talent has been finely tuned by years of experience and education, and the resulting images are nothing short of stunning.

Your son brings you a dandelion clasped in a chubby fist. You pull him close and smell the sun on his skin and kiss the tip of his nose. It is all your love wrapped up in one small, unforgettable moment.

And it’s been captured forever by Portraits by Deborah.

The studio is spacious, inviting, filled with tons of photo props, and the session time literally flew by. Deborah is a consummate professional and I look forward to returning for the 3 month old, 6 month old, 9 month old, and one year old photo sessions!!!

  2. Everything is beautiful, but the oil like portraits are amazing! I would love to have one of those of my kids!
