Summer is the perfect time to have fun by exploring the world around you. People of all ages, but especially teens, often have a hard time finding things to do when school breaks for the year. Look no further than your local community for plans that are a perfect fit for any age or group! I’ve listed a few suggestions of the places I like to visit and highly recommend for anyone looking to explore my home town of Davie County.

Just across the river from Winston Salem, families from all over the Triad area have easy access to a huge variety of family-friendly activities in Davie County that even your teens will enjoy. Cognition, a newly opened facility, is built for education and creative endeavor. Offering classes on many arts and crafts, along with an upstairs play-area for the little ones, Cognition is a great place to hang out and learn with the entire family. The Farmington Community Center offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. Several walking trails, a playground, a picnic area, and disc golf are a perfect way to spend your summer days. The Community Center hosts a variety of events that you can view on their website. The Davie Community Park offers many fun things to do. Several trails around the park allow for walks, runs, and bike rides accessible to the entire family. Other amenities at the park include basketball courts, a baseball/softball field, a turf field, and a multipurpose field. Best of all, a newly-built splash pad is now open at the park. It is an ideal way for a family to cool off from the hot, summer sun. Two playgrounds reside at the park, one being an “American Ninja Warrior” style course if you’re up for a challenge! RiverPark at Cooleemee Falls and Rich Park in Mocksville are also fun venues to add to a family adventure.

There is no better place for a fun family meal than a family owned restaurant! Whenever you find yourself in Davie County, there are many great options nearby. Stop in at Deano’s BBQ, Tucker’s Place, The Feed Bag, or Venezia’s to satisfy your cravings before spending time as a family at the many possibilities Davie County offers.

A girls day is also a fun way to enjoy the summer with your best friends! Davie County is home to some very cute boutiques and shops. Starting off the day in Mocksville Bird & Co, and Southern Ties have the trendiest summer outfits! For lunch, stop by one of Mockville’s locally owned restaurants. Millers and 601 Burgers and Brews both have mouth-watering menus for you and your girls to enjoy! After lunch make a stop at South and Main, a newly-opened boutique in Advance. Then head around the corner to Maddie Cakes, a bakery with cupcakes, cookies, coffee, and cozy furniture to relax after your long day of shopping!

For a fancy date night, perfect for any couple, be sure to visit one of the many delicious restaurants serving dinner in Davie County. O’Callahans, Davie Tavern, Tanglewood Pizza Co. and Restaurant 101 all have a variety of foods. From steak to pizza, there is something for everyone to enjoy. After dinner take a stroll around downtown Mocksville or look for an event happening in the area. Live music is often played around the county at community centers or in downtown Mocksville. If you’re looking to get some exercise, there are also many walking trails such as the ones at Davie Community Park or the Davie Medical Center in Advance. For a refreshing frozen treat, top off your date night with dessert at LA Ice in Advance or Scoops Ice Cream in downtown Mocksville.

A great way to make summer plans is to incorporate the businesses that give back to your community. Many of the local businesses and facilities listed above support Davie County Schools, and the youth of Davie County on a regular basis. By offering a safe and fun space for residents to enjoy, these businesses make Davie County a great place to live or visit. I highly recommend any of these activities to families or teens looking to have some fun over the summer in Davie County!
